The Roots of Inspiration
Glyn Price was born in the charming village of Cwm-y-glo, nestled in the heart of Snowdonia, North Wales. Growing up surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of mountains and slate quarries, Glyn developed an innate connection to the natural world from an early age. It was these surroundings that would later become the primary inspiration for his artwork.
The Awakening
It was during his time away from home, studying fine art at the University of Gloucester in Cheltenham, that Glyn experienced a profound realization. The change of scenery made him acutely aware of how deeply connected he felt to the Welsh countryside. The flat landscapes of Cheltenham failed to ignite his artistic passion, leading him to understand the significance of the Welsh landscapes that had always been a part of his life.
"Moving away was a massive change for me. It took me a while to get used to the flat landscapes because at home I am surrounded by mountains and slate quarries. I soon discovered that I couldn't paint the landscape because it didn't mean anything to me. Cheltenham made me realize how lucky I am and how I shouldn't take the scenery in Wales for granted. I wanted to document the countryside in my own individual style when I came home after completing my degree in 2002 and because I am a local lad it made me more determined to show the views off," Glyn shared.
